In this study, in the province of Mardin, where according to 2020 data 8.3% of durum wheat production is produced in Turkey, the socio-economic status of durum wheat producers, factors affecting their production, marketing structure of the product and the problems of the producers were investigated. For this purpose, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 120 producers calculated by stratified random sampling method in 3 districts (Artuklu, Kızıltepe and Derik). It has been determined that the most important factors affecting the durum wheat production in the province are the price of wheat and its marketing situation; the use of certified and high yielding seeds in the region is quite high, and 61.7% of the agricultural lands are irrigated. One of the most important problems faced by producers in durum wheat production is the high cost of energy used in irrigation. High input prices and problems in the supply of quality seeds are among the other problems. As a result, reducing the factors limiting durum wheat production in the province to a minimum and considering that durum wheat cultivation is decreasing gradually in our region, it has been suggested to increase the cultivation areas of durum wheat with additional/alternative support models.
