Investigation of Turf Performances of Different Turfgrass Mixtures Options in the Mediterranean Climate

In this study, the turf performances of nine different mixtures options of cool season turfgras species in the Mediterranean climate, including cultivars of Festuca arundinacea, Lolium perenne, Poa pratensis, Festuca rubra rubra, Festuca rubra commutata, Festuca rubra trichophylla, Festuca arundinacea and Festuca ovina have been investigated for four seasons between 2015 and 2016. For this purpose, color, texture, cover rate, turf quality, weed invasion, green matter yield, dry matter content and dry matter yield have been evaluated. A randomized block design with four repetitions has been employed in this study using 1 m x 2 m = 2 m² parcels. The findings have been checked by the Least Significant Difference LSD (5%). According to the findings of the study, based on eight performance criterion the best performance has been obtained from the mixtures of Festuca arundinacea (80 %) + Lolium perenne (10 %) + Poa pratensis (10 %) and Festuca arundinacea (70 %) + Lolium perenne (30 %) mixtures. In conclusion, the mixtures that include high percentage of Festuca arundinacea cultivars that show high performances in terms of turf quality and cover rate etc. are highly recommended in turf areas in the Mediterranean climate.
