This selection study was conducted to determine promosing walnut types from Bahçesaray (Van) plain during 1997 and 2000. Among approximate 100.000 scedling walnut trees, which have native genotype characteristic, in first step 374 selections were chosen with regard to several breeding objectives. From these selections, 32 were considered as promising. Promising selections had nut weights between 9.75-17.69 g, kernel weights between 5.35-8.09 g, kemel percentages between 47.1% and 66.6 % , shell thickness between 1.00 mm and 1.90 mm and lateral fruitfullness between 30 % and 100 %. İn addition, promising genotypes flowered as protandrous, protogenous and homogamous habits. The altitudes of trees varied from 1630 m to2060 m.
