Abstract

An experiment was conducted at Izmir, Türkiye under typical Mediterranean climatic condition, to determine the effect of nitrogen rate on the grain yield and some yield characteristics of rape (Brassica oleifera). Four different nitrogen rates (N0:0 kg, N4:40 kg, N8:80 kg, N12: 120 kg and N16: 160 kg·ha-1) were tested on the crops. Some characteristics were measured such as plant height, grain yield, thousand grain weight and oil content. Results indicated that N rate effect was significant for plant height, grain yield but not for thousand grain weight and oil content. Biological yield increased significantly as N application rate increased from N0 to N8, but thereafter remained constant. In contrast, the highest grain yield was obtained from the application of N12.
