Artificial Intelligence Policy

Purpose
This policy establishes ethical, scientific, and technical standards for the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the MAS Journal of Applied Sciences and aligns with international publication ethics standards, including COPE guidelines. The primary objectives are to ensure AI's transparent, accurate, and impartial use in academic work, uphold academic integrity, and safeguard data privacy. This policy may be updated following developments in AI tools and their applications.

This policy may be updated following developments in AI tools and their applications.
This policy aligns with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) (COPE Core Practices) and follows international standards for ethical publishing and AI use (COPE AI Position Statement).

General Principles
1. Ethical Use:  AI technologies may be used only as supportive tools for language editing, grammar correction, and formatting. The use of AI for generating scientific content, data analysis, results, or conclusions is not permitted. But the use of AI in the production, analysis, and interpretation of academic content is entirely the responsibility of the author.
2. Transparency: Authors must explicitly disclose the use of AI tools, including the purpose, extent, and stage of use, in a dedicated statement within the manuscript. This disclosure must be included in the ethical statement section of the manuscript.
3. Accuracy:  Authors must ensure that all AI-generated or AI-assisted outputs are verified using reliable scientific sources and must take full responsibility for any inaccuracies, omissions, or misleading information. Authors are responsible for any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading information.
4. Impartiality: AI technologies must be used in an objective and unbiased manner, and any potential conflicts of interest arising from their use must be clearly disclosed. To prevent potential conflicts of interest, authors must ensure transparency and explicitly disclose such situations in their ethical statements.
5. Privacy and Security:  The confidentiality and security of personal data in AI usage is a priority.
Data collection, storage, and processing must comply with privacy principles, including the General Data Protection Regulation. Authors must not upload confidential, unpublished, or sensitive data to AI tools, and all data processing must comply with applicable data protection and privacy regulations.

6. Citation:  AI tools must not be listed as authors or cited as primary sources in references; however, their use must be transparently disclosed in the manuscript. However, this usage must be clearly stated in the ethical statement section.

Responsibilities
1. Authors: Authors bear full ethical and scientific responsibility for the use of AI technologies and must ensure compliance with journal policies and publication ethics.
2. Reviewers and Editors: Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts or confidential content to AI tools and are responsible for ensuring that AI use complies with the journal’s ethical standards.
3. Updates and Adaptations: This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated in accordance with advancements in AI technologies and evolving international publishing standards.
